'Train the Trainers' in Angola reaches milestone

/uploads/img/Newsletter/Angola_TrainTrainers.jpg INTSOK's Train the Trainers project in Angola reached a paramount milestone last week. After months of intense training and upgrading of equipment and textbooks, the Instituto National de Petroleo (INP) opened its doors to 92 new students on March 19. The formal opening ceremony was conducted by the school administration and faculty in the school auditorium.
Present at the ceremony in Sumbe were the participating partner companies Vetco and FMC Technology, the Regional Director of Education in Kuanza Sul, representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum and the Norwegian Embassy as well as the 92 eager new students. Eva Ljosland, INTSOK’s Regional Director for Angola, was among the speakers.
INTSOK has engaged RKK (Rogaland kurs og kompetansesenter) as the training contractor for this second phase of the project. RKK has, since late 2008, worked intensively on extending and strengthening the curriculum, and on creating and implementing new text books. New training equipment was provided for haudraulics, electronics and HSE, and in addition the teachers were given extensive training on-site and in Namibia. What was originally meant to be an additional fourth year added to the three year basic education, like in the first phase of the project, is now incorporated in the three basic years. Graduating students will obtain the same level, or higher, after three years as was earlier reached after four years.

The Train the Trainers project has been organized by INTSOK, performed by RKK in cooperation with INP and financed by Vetco, FMC Technologies, Cameron and Norad, where the latter covered 50% of the cost. The program is a continuation based on evaluation of phase 1 of the same project which was started in 2004.
